What is it? A container for cooking bacon in the microwave.
This product consists of a “pitcher” shaped container with a secure lid, and an internal component of “vanes” that hold the bacon (see video).
To use this product, you put raw bacon strips on the vanes, one slice per vane. There are a total of six vanes, so you can make up to six slices at a time. If you need more than six slices cooked at a time, the vendor suggests using two units to make more, rotating them as needed.
When the top is secure on the vane component and then secured inside the container, the product is placed inside a microwave oven. The thickness of the bacon and number of slices being cooked determine how long you need to cook it. The product’s instructions advise to cook 30 seconds per strip for thinner bacon (22 strips/pound), or 45 seconds per strip (11 strips/pound).
In our evaluation, we used very thick sliced bacon that was 8 strips/pound. We initially cooked it for 45 seconds per strip, cooking four strips, which was a total of 3 minutes (4 x 45 seconds). The bacon came out cooked, but a little limp, not hard and crispy. Cooking it a little longer fixed that. As noted in the video, you may need to experiment a little depending on the thickness of your bacon and your personal tastes to get it exactly to your personal preference.
Best of all, after cooking, all of the bacon grease and drippings are nicely captured in the container for easy disposal with no mess in your microwave or on the stovetop. That really is the main benefit of this product—i.e. microwave bacon cooking with less mess.
We observed the product to be easy to use and to work as advertised.
