What is it? A marinater that accelerates marinating time by placing food in a vacuum.
This product consists of a large plastic bowl, airtight lid, and vacuum pump. Its major claim is that is can marinate foods in a fraction of the time needed for traditional marinating.
In our evaluation (see video) we took six lamb chops and separated them into two groups of three. The first group was used as a control. These three were placed in a plastic bag and a simple marinade of red wine, olive oil, garlic and pepper was poured in. This group was allowed to marinate for a little over four hours.
For the other group of lamb chops we waited until approximately thirty minutes prior to cooking time to marinate them using the product. At that time, per the product’s instructions, we placed the other three lamb chops in the product, covered them with the exact same marinade, applied the lid, and used the pump to vacuum out all of the air inside the product.
After only 30 minutes of marinating the lamb chops in the product, we removed them, along with the other three that had been marinating in a plastic bag for four hours, and grilled all of them at the same time, under the same conditions (approximately 15 minutes at 325-350 degrees, turning once).
The result of our evaluation was to observe that the lamb chops marinating for only thirty minutes inside a sealed vacuum came out just as tender and tasty as the ones in the traditional bag.
We observed this product to work as advertised.
