ASOTVI Review

Video Video

October 16, 2008

What is it? A variety of wine accessories (corkscrew, cooler and vacuum saver).

We evaluated three different products from this vendor, of which they offer a broad line of many wine accessory products. Specifically, we looked at one of their corkscrews, a wine cooler, and a wine saver.

In our video you’ll see we first used the corkscrew to open a bottle of chilled white wine. We used its integral bar knife to remove the foil and then the traditional manual corkscrew to remove the cork. This corkscrew worked just fine. It even has a spring-loaded “second step” to grab the lip of the bottle for use with longer corks.

Next we emptied a glass worth of wine (and ensured it wasn’t wasted) and proceeded to test the wine cooler. This product is a “cuff”– or “sleeve”-like product that you put in your freezer for at least six hours prior to use, and it acts as a “wine bucket” to keep a chilled bottle cold when sitting on a table while it’s being enjoyed, without all the ice and water and mess of a traditional ice bucket.

When we took our wine out of the wine fridge, we first tested its temperature and found it to be at approximately 53 degrees to start. The air temperature was approximately 79 degrees. We wrapped the wine cooler around the bottle and waited. A nice feature of this wine cooler product is Velcro strips to adjust it to the size of your wine bottle, and the ability to accommodate larger bottles, such as champagne bottles and magnums.

After a half an hour, our measured temperature of the wine in the bottle was still under 60 degrees, so the wine had only warmed five or six degrees or so. After a full hour the wine was only 60-61 degrees, so still fairly chilled.

Lastly, we tested the wine saver, which is a self-contained vacuum pump and cap that vacuums air out of your wine bottle and seals it air tight for storage, preventing air inside the bottle from accelerating the process of making the wine go bad over time.

All in all, we observed all of these products to work as advertised.
